Note: I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but I found this to be the easiest and quickest method.If you have another way that is faster please share it.

1. First things first, we need to prep the mail app by creating a new generic email signature. Open the mail app and click Preferences (Command and ,), then go to the signatures tab and click the + to add a new signature. By default it adds your name and email. Name it whatever you like and it auto saves on it’s own. If you have more than one email account drag the signature name to the account to the left to add it. Whats happening when we create a signature in the mail app is a (.webarchive) file is being created and stored in Home>Library>Mail>Signatures. We will come to that folder location in a moment. Now close the dialog box and exit mail (command and Q). Download source code here.

2. Open up Coda or preferred editor and start a new HTML document. Create your HTML signature in the same format as the source I have provided below. This code will give you a starting point and you can tweak as necessary to your abilities. Use only Table tags, no Head or Body tags because Apple mail does not support it. If you use an image make sure you provide the absolute path to the URL it’s hosted at.

Once you have your signature the way you like it, save it as a (.HTML) file to your desktop. Open it in Safari, I have tried this using Firefox and it did not work so be sure to use Safari. Once open in Safari, look it over and confirm that it looks the way you wish it to. If you are satisfied with it go up to File, Save As, and navigate to Home>Library>Mail>Signatures and then locate the .webarchive file you just created from the mail app (it will be a long string of characters.webarchive). Click it and when asked to replace it say yes.

3. Now open your mail app again and compose a new mail and if necessary click the signature tab drop down and select your signature. That’s it! Now you can send nice professional emails with your custom HTML signature.
